"You give but little when you give of your possession. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." - Kahlil Gibran

May the merits accrued through all acts of charity at Wat Puthanimittam be shared amongst you, your family and friends.

On 17.05.2011,
Wesak Day is the celebration of the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Gautama Buddha.
Don't leave the development of spirituality till tomorrow ..... Life is so fragile. We should not wait for tomorrow what we can do today.
Doing simple things to make one's life and that of others happier. Giving is a virtue that we could all easily adapt to. Somehow it has become the tendency for people especially in bigger towns to be spiteful, selfish, self-centred, hurtful
and malicious. Try to cultivate altruism, philanthropy and humanity.

Let us pray .....
For peace in this world with security and harmony between people. To perpetuate a sense of universal responsibility so our survival are not threatened.
That today we bury our faults, weakness and prejudice and give our soul to Buddha.
Today, on this auspicious day, perform kind deeds and speak kindly to those who need them.
May all be blessed with good health, long life, happiness and wisdom supreme.

UPDATES

On 01.05.2011, Wat Puthanimittam celebrates the consecration of the 33ft. tall Lord Buddha statue in the lotus position.Auspicious blessings to you all and may your lives be embraced by the light and wisdom of His Holiness.

The road to spiritual enlightenment is dotted with many tempting parking places. All of us have been tempted to look for shortcuts. We desperately want a formula that will open up the windows of the Pureland to rain down its blessings.
On this day, lift up your hands in prayers.Prayer is a beautiful foretaste of something we will experience for all eternity. It is a daily reminder to live with this in mind.We may get the provision of necessities, not necessary niceties.
And today when you stand praying, plead for His wisdom, show compassion and forgive. We must never underestimate the power of wholesome prayers. Most of us prayed backwards, we hurry into the monastery with a laundry list
of prayer requests. We flattered ourselves that we could bring requests without investing quality time here. The more you meditate on dhamma, the clearer the voice of Buddha will be within the sounds of silence.

Thank you all.......may the merits gained from all acts of charity, donation of time, cash and kind go to the liberation of all sentient beings from the wheel of samsara.

HOW TO WALK IN THE STEP OF YOUR SPIRITUAL MASTER......

Nowadays, people feel uncomfortable subjecting themselves to the guidance and authority of another person
who consciously they hold to be equal or better educated than himself/herself.Young people are demanding
more freedom and responsibility, refusing to listen and insisting they know better than their parents/teachers.
Living in today degenrate times, opportunities to meet and be guided by authentic spiritual master are more
exceptional and precious. All of us will have different experiences according to our previous karma and activities.

A spiritual master who has obtained high levels of realization can through his power of compassion lead us from
egostic, deluded grasping of a non existence self. He will protect his disciples from adopting wrong conduct and
encourage pure morality and guide them back to the path.By following him, we become more composed and calmer
with improved concentration.Sometimes our own ignorance and obscurations prevent the fundamental acknowledgement
of the master qualities. They will not benefit from his teachings and blessings. These obscurations may become such a
hindrance that we fail to recognise the qualities in the master. The master is the one we should rest our trust until
enlightenment.A master with the perfect knowledge and who has extensive wisdom and who is liberated from samsara
can fulfil our wishes and guide us through his compassion. In essence, the master we meet is the result of our views and
consequences of our past karma.

Whatever we do for our master, we should do out of pure respect and not out of pretension, disinterest or grudgingly.
We should develop the wisdom to recognise the wisdom of his many activities as well as the concentration to hold the
knowledge dispensed in his teachings.

Mindful of all precepts, vows and instructions bestowed by the master, we should take great care and respect in following them.
There are no greater sources of refuge or opportunities to accumulate merit than by following our master and benefit from
the outpouring of his blessings, wisdom and realization. We therefore have to fundamentally alter our external and inner behaviour to benefit from his presence, Teachings and blessings. The master understands that there are many classes of mental disposition and
different stages of realizations and uses his compassion and skilful practice to constantly liberate others.

"......an offering made to the Sangha is incalculable, immeasurable. And I say that in no way does a gift to a person individually ever have
greater fruit than an offering made to the Sangha."

The Buddha, Majjhima Nikaya 142
